Maryland’s British Roots Tours
These museum sponsored tours conducted in association with Cole Travel are adult education experiences. Their focus is sites connected to early Maryland settlers, although a rich assortment of places related to significant aspects of British and Irish history are always included. Conducted since 2002, these custom-designed excursions have explored places directly associated with the Calvert and Arundell families, and visited fascinating sites in England’s south, the West Country, Yorkshire and the North, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. The 2018 tour is presented below.
Explore Southeast England
Historic St. Mary’s City’s next education tour in the UK is now being offered for August 5 – 15, 2018. Passengers will experience remarkable places in East Anglia and Southeast England, the homeland of noted early Marylanders such as Thomas Cornwaleys, Andrew White, and John Lewger. Among the many sites visited are the tomb of Cecil and Leonard Calvert’s mother, Cambridge University, Oliver Cromwell’s home, England’s largest Roman villa, Canterbury Cathedral, the romantic Leeds Castle, and the amazing museum of the World War II Air War. Arranged in partnership with Cole Travel, the trip includes the following: air; private motor coach; stays at high quality hotels in the center of Cambridge and Canterbury, and the charming Spread Eagle Arms in Midhurst; all breakfasts, and five dinners.
