Block Making Workshop

September 12, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Join Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum (CBMM) Shipyard Education Manager, Jennifer Kuhn, and Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC) Shipwright, Jim Knowles, for this daylong workshop.  Learn how to make handmade blocks that are to be used on the new Maryland Dove, which is currently under construction at CBMM.  These blocks are integral to the ship’s rigging, and will be used throughout for raising and lowering the sails.  Not only will attendants be learning a new skill, but their work will be part of the new ship!

This program is open to both adults and children, with the following guidelines:  children ages 10-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult who will supervise/work in tandem with that child; children ages 16-18 years old can be unaccompanied.  Ear and eye protection will be provided.

$75 per person ($65 for CBMM or HSMC members)

Payment in full is due at time of registration.  Contact the HSMC Visitor Center at (240) 895-4990, or Info@DigsHistory.org.  Space is limited.
